Easy win at Bridport

A full strength 1st team took on Bridport last night in a Dorset Cup preliminary and came away easy winners with the opposition only scoring one goal whilst we were into double figures. With Ady Gant in goal, the remaining 12 players split into two teams and each played alternating quarters.

Victory means we'll probably play Bournemouth in the Dorset Cup Final on 2nd July at Poole Dolphin pool.

Team was Ady Gant, Dan Kinsey, Nick Ireland, David Jones, Grant Laming, Mat White, Martin Rutland, Paul Jones, John Restorick, Niall Laming, Dan White, Peter Buckland and Ed Stevens.

Barnstaple News

Not too great a result at the Barnstaple Tournament on Saturday.

Going into the first game against the hosts Barnstaple with confidence buoyed by the knowledge that we beat them recently with just a team of eight, we soon realised they were much stronger than then and lost the short game 5-1.

The second game against Newquay didn't go any better and also ended in a 5-1 loss.

The departure of Mat and Dan White with Craig Bishop back to Weymouth left us with 8 players forthe third group game but despite this we triumphed with a 4-1 win over Aston.

A final game against Barnstaple 'B' for 5th/6th place ended in a 2-2 draw.

Several of the team stayed over in Bude for a BBQ at JR's caravan.

Team was Ady Gant, Martin Rutland, Mat & Dan White, Grant & Niall Laming, Steve & John Restorick, Craig Bishop, Dan Kinsey and Nick Ireland.

1st team at Barnstaple Tournament

Weymouth & Portland 1sts take part in the annual tournament at Barnstaple tomorrow, Saturday 17th June.

Hampshire League rivals Basingstoke have withdrawn this week but other teams competing are likely to include Newquay and long-time rivals Weston-super-Mare as well as the hosts of course.

8-7 win over Andover

A virtually full strength first team struggled to overcome a spirited Andover.

An early first quarter lead was gradually pulled back by the home team and whilst Andover never led the game, a goal a minute from the end to narrow the deficit to just 8-7 resulted in a nervous last minute for us.
