Lady Richmond Brown Triumph

The Weymouth & Portland National League squad won the Lady Richmond Brown Tournament for the first time today.

We were drawn in the most difficult group, with previous winners and hosts Basingstoke plus current holders Southampton City, as well as Bournemouth.

Our first game was against the team in form, Basingstoke, who currently lead the Hampshire League. We went a goal down very early on but fought back to end up with a 5 -2 victory.

The next game was against the nominally weakest team, Bournemouth. They fought hard and the close game ended with a 3 - 2 win for us.

The final group game was against our nemesis side, Southampton City. Missing their usual goalkeeper, we were level at 1 -1 for most of the game until a man-up goal and then another late in the game gave us a 3 - 1 victory.

Having won the group outright, we played the winners of the other group, Southampton University, for the Cup.

In a tight game against a fit side, we traded goals and were at 2 -2 in the last couple of minutes until we managed a final score to win the game 3 -2.

13 - 6 Win at Bournemouth

The 1st team had a successful trip to Stokewood Road last night with a crucial Hampshire League win over Dorset rivals Bournemouth.

We opened the scoring early in the first quarter and were never headed for the rest of the game.

A poor second quarter was followed by a rally in the third. Going into the final quarter with a 9 - 6 lead, we scored four more times without reply as the hosts faded.

Team consisted of Martin Rutland, Dan Kinsey, Steve & John Restorick, Grant & Niall Laming, Ed Stevens, George Fridd, Nick Ireland, Diddy Jones, Matt White, Keiron Reeson and Ady Gant.

Bournemouth 1st Team Game Tomorrow

The 1st team have a Hampshire League game against Bournemouth tomorrow at Stokewood Road.

Leaving JR's about 8:10pm.

Results from last week

The junior team thrashed Bridport 25-0 last Monday.

Yesterday saw Blandford visit us for two games.

The mini-polo game ended up in a 6-0 defeat for us but the team played well against a older opposition.

The Junior game started well but rapidly went downhill and we lost 5-4. They didn't play at anywhere near their potential.

Junior Game Tonight

Junior team game away at Bridport. Game starts at 7pm.

2nd Team Win at Southampton City

The 2nd team had an easy win away at Southampton City on Tuesday.

The crunch Hampshire League game against City yesterday was cancelled by them due to a lack of fit players. It may be rescheduled, though we can claim the points instead.

Five games and five wins!

The Old Boys beat Bridport in an away game last Monday.

On Wednesday, the 1st team travelled to Southampton Uni and came away from the friendly with a 9-7 victory.

Thursday saw the National League squad meet up with their Exeter teammates to play a friendly at Barnstaple. After a delay whilst the pool lights failed, they put in an impressive performance to defeat the home team 16-5.

Yesterday saw more games at Boscawen against Bridport, this time in the Dorset Cup competitions.

The Ladies team overcame their opponents 6-5 in an exciting game which saw the winning goal in the last thirty seconds - Sally Way lobbing the Bridport keeper from an acute angle on the left wing. Emma Restorick-Kinsey and Kelley Ireland both grabbed two goals each earlier in the game.

Final game of the week saw the men's 1st team thrash Bridport 24-2 in the Dorset Shield, a victory which more or less guarantees retaining the Shield this year given our previous results against main rivals Bournemouth.

Next game is a crunch Hampshire League fixture against Southampton City next Sunday evening at Boscawen. After the recent defeat up at Basingstoke, we need to win to keep our hopes of winning the title this year alive.
